Michael Collins Throw - Historic Reproduced Travel Blanket
Own a real piece of Irish history with this authentically reproduced 100% wool woven throw.
In 1922, Foxford Woollen Mills crafted a specially commissioned travel blanket and presented it to General Michael Collins. This travel blanket was used by Michael Collins while travelling in his armoured car and was in his vehicle when the tragic ambush at Béal Na Bláth took place, resulting in the death of one Ireland's greatest political icons. The original blanket was recovered at Shanakiel Hospital by Nurse Nora O'Donaghue and donated to the National Museum☘️
This blanket has now been reproduced in conjunction with the Michael Collins House, Clonakilty, Co. Cork.
The blanket was woven in the traditional Foxford Check pattern in tones of olive, gold and white, using a vintage 4 ply Melange yarn. This quality wool is similar to that used in the early part of the last century and has resulted in a very warm, sturdy blanket.
This particular blanket is pre-owned, but I see no spots, tears, fading, unraveling or wear. There are no moth holes and the design is bright and clear. The beautifully rolled fringe is intact. All in all, this is a lovely, usable piece with a powerful history.
