Description
Charleston, South Carolina has a vibrant Irish-American community with a proud Charleston Community history. An Original printed Invitation to the Hibernian Hall March 17, 1849 (St Patrick's Day) Anniversary Dinner of the Hibernian Society, on Meeting Street, Charleston. The invitation is ink addressed to "Capt Bowman U.S.A. Fort Sumpter". (Captain Alexander Hamilton Bowman, US Army was stationed at Charleston Harbor and Chief Engineer who built and upgraded Charleston's Harbor forts including Fort Sumter. The 7 x 4.5" Invitation is extended by Society Chairman JP Stuart, a Charleston notable ( Along with Colonel James Chesnut, Stuart was one of the founding members of the historic 1851 Southern Rights Cooperation Meeting which took place at Hibernian Hall 2 years later.
